Kohl’s Job Interview Questions & Answers

Some of the most common Kohl’s interview questions are on this list. We’re covering questions for Sales Floor Associate, POS Associate (Cashier), and Customer Service Representative. Most entry-level applicants at Kohl’s will be asked some of these questions during their interview for sure. Try to have your answers prepared before going into your interview. On top of that, practice the questions out loud with a family member, a friend or in front of a mirror.

1.) Sales Floor Associate Interview Questions & Answers

Q1: “What would you do if you were given a task but didn’t have enough time to finish it?”
A1: “In this kind of situations, I would let my manager know that I wasn’t able to finish my task. Afterward, I’d find someone else in my department who is able to take over and finish the task.”

Q2: “What would you do if a customer interrupts you while you’re helping another customer?”
A2: “I would politely let the customer know that I would love to help them and that I’ll be able to be right with them as soon as I help the customer I’m already engaged with.”

Q3: What do you consider a valid reason to call out of work?”
A3: “There aren’t many real reasons to call out of work, in my opinion. In the case of a true emergency such as a fire or a car accident, I would call out.”

2.) POS Associate Interview Questions & Answers

Q1: “Is the customer always right?”
A1: “Not necessarily. Although, in a customer-facing position, it doesn’t matter whether or not the customer is right. At the end of the day, in retail, it’s all about making sure the customer is happy when they leave the building. Arguing with a customer won’t ever improve the situation. Arguing with a customer will only lead to negative reviews and negative word-of-mouth information going around.”

Q2: “If there was a customer on the phone needing help, a customer in front of you needing to be rung up, and stock that needed to be put away, what order would you address them in?”
A2: “I would ask the customer on the phone if I could put them on hold for a few minutes and let them know that I would be right with them. Then, I’d help the customer who was already in the store. After that, I’d help the customer on the phone. Then, I would put away the stock.”

Q3: “What was your favorite element of your last job position?”
A3: “The best part about my previous position was that I was given the ability to work independently for a lot of my time. Once I had been in the position for a few months, I was given creative license for many of the displays I was in charge of. I was in charge of a number of restocking and visual merchandising tasks and I was allowed to complete them in any order I wanted, provided I got them done on time. It was nice knowing that my manager trusted me to get the job done.”

3.) Customer Service Representative Interview Questions & Answers

Q1: “How do you typically handle deadlines at work?”
A1: “When I’m assigned a project with a deadline, I try to break the project down into smaller pieces that are more manageable. I’m generally able to finish the project before the deadline by making sure I get multiple pieces of the project done each day. For larger assignments, I’ll schedule out pieces of the project on my calendar.”

Q2: “How do you typically handle angry customers?”
A2: “The best way to go about dealing with an angry customer is making sure that you don’t become angry yourself. Elevating the situation will never help – I will always stay calm, try to understand the problem, and work toward a solution that can make the customer happy. Sometimes, all you need to do is make sure the customer understands that you’re on their side and that you’re going to help them.”

Q3: “What does great customer service mean to you?”
A3: “Something that always stands out to me is when employees take the time to ask and remember my name or to give me helpful, relevant suggestions in-store. I’m usually impressed by the way these employees take the time to get to know me and think of personalized product recommendations based on my likes, needs or plans. Therefore, I always try to go out of the way to understand what my customer needs or wants and make them feel comfortable by using their name and engaging in conversation with them while helping them.”

Kohl’s Job Interview Tips

Arrive 10-15 minutes early and dress well
Be sure to show up and ask for the manager 10-15 minutes before your scheduled Kohl’s interview questions time. If the manager isn’t ready to interview you yet, they will at least know that you made it to the appointment early and take the job opportunity seriously.

Dress up for your Kohl’s interview
Kohl’s is a department store, and you can’t go wrong with dressing up. If your geographical location is more casual and relaxed, you may be OK with a business casual outfit for your interview. If you’re located in a major metropolitan area, you’ll probably want to opt for something more refined.

For men, try dress slacks and a jacket paired with a button-down dress shirt and dark dress shoes. For women, go for slacks or a skirt with a blouse, a jacket, hosiery, and closed-toe dress shoes.

Do your research about the company
One of the Kohl’s interview questions you’re likely to encounter is a general one about why you want to work at Kohl’s specifically. By studying the programs that Kohl’s participates in, you’ll be able to find an answer that sounds genuine. For example, the Kohl’s Cares program raises millions of dollars for various children’s charities each year.
