He would always pressure us to leave before we were finished closing. However, I would stay until the closing tasks were completed.”

A3: “I remember a customer coming into the store I worked at with a coupon for an item we had recently sold out of. We weren’t going to be receiving any more of that item. Despite all this, I helped the customer find something similar, and she ended up liking that item even better.”

In the end, he agreed to stop directing his peers and instead to come to me if he had any suggestions related to productivity or work policies.”

A2: “I’ve encountered quite a few systems that work to varying degrees. A simple “Ring the bell if you were given great service today” paired with a bell and a whiteboard to tally up the rings for each associate is an effective way to measure customer satisfaction on a daily basis.
Also, taking the time to check on the status of a task after assigning it to a team member is important. If your team knows that their work isn’t being checked on, they’re more likely to leave it undone or to complete the task sloppily.”
Q3: “Tell me about a time you had to put together a plan based on limited information.”
A3: “I was asked to create training documents for a family-owned retail store’s new hires based upon nothing but my years of experience working there. I didn’t know anything about how to create a training program. Nonetheless, I used the internet to find best practices. I focused on learning how industry leaders formatted publicly available training documents. Based on that information and my own experience, I created documents for the store.”
