PetSmart Job Interview Questions & Answers

These are some of the most commonly asked PetSmart interview questions. You’ll probably be asked more than one of these during your interview, so study them carefully. For each of these PetSmart interview questions, we’ve provided an answer suggests that you can use as a foundation for your own answers.

1.) Cashier Interview Questions & Answers

Q1: “What makes you want to work at PetSmart?”
A1: “I enjoy working with both pets and people. PetSmart ties both of those together, and I feel like my personality will work well here. Working here would mean that I’d look forward to coming to work each day.”

Q2: “Describe the kind of work environment you work the best in.”
A2: “I prefer to work in a fast-paced environment because I never run out of things to do. When I get more done at work, I feel accomplished. “

Q3: “How would you sell me a dog leash?”
A3: These kinds of PetSmart interview questions focus on your ability to upsell products and connect with the customers enough to make sales. Within your answer, try to subtly let the interviewer know that you understand why they are asking the question.

“The more conversation I’m able to exchange with the customer, the more likely I will be able to sell them a product. For example, if a customer approaches me in the store and asks where a product is, I’ll ask them about their pets and try to see if there’s another problem I can help solve by recommending an additional product. If a customer were to talk about a problem she has with controlling her dog, I would recommend a leash based on the features that set it apart from other similar products.”

2.) Pet Care Associate Interview Questions & Answers

Q1: “How would you deal with a difficult customer?”
A1: “I would stay calm and assure the customer that I am on their side. If they have a story to tell, I would let them vent before talking. After I heard what they had to say, I would resolve the issue myself or get a manager if it came to that.”

Q2: “Talk about a time you had to prioritize tasks that had a strict deadline.”
A2: “In my last position, I was coaching new hires and getting them ready to work independently. I had a list of tasks they had to master within a week, so I was regularly pressed for time. I broke down the employees into two groups based on their learning speed and had them complete tasks at different paces. I would always prioritize critical components of the job before moving onto non-essential skills.”

Q3: “How do you typically respond when given negative feedback?”
A3: “Negative feedback was something I used to dread at the beginning of my retail experience. Now, I see negative feedback as opportunities to improve my skills. When a manager gives me feedback, be it positive or negative, I am usually impressed. I take this as our managers truly place value on their employees and want them to succeed. Generally, I do best with managers that give regular feedback.”

3.) Pet Bather Interview Questions & Answers

Q1: “What would you do if you had an issue with one of your coworkers?”
A1: “I don’t generally have any problems with my coworkers because I don’t believe in bringing personal issues to work. If a coworker-related problem arose that was interfering with work, I would sit down with the coworker and try to resolve it one-on-one. Sometimes, issues between two people are products of miscommunication.”

Q2: “Talk about a time you went above and beyond for a customer.”
A2: “There was a time that a customer lost her phone in the store while browsing. She had asked one of my coworkers to help her find the phone. However, he was about to leave and needed to be home quickly. I jumped in and volunteered to help her find the missing phone. The store was big, so I took note of the aisles we covered while searching. Thirty minutes later, we found the phone. She was excited to have her phone back and started shopping at the store weekly.”

Q3: “Why is giving outstanding customer service important to this position?”
A3: “Customer service is what sets one establishment apart from another. The customer experience needs to be above and beyond or else the customer will be unlikely to return. At PetSmart, taking care of the customers also means taking great care of their pets. Treating the pets with kindness and respect is part of giving customer service here.”
